United States 2nd AAF Custom Tailored Field Jacket. Nice bullion 2nd Army Air Force (AAF) shoulder sleeve insignia (patch) on one sleeve. Also, has corporal sleeve rank insignia on each sleeve and one enlisted service stripe on lower section of one sleeve (which represented 3 years of service). Uniform has 3 place ribbon bar above one pocket (Good Conduct, WW2 Victory, and American Campaign ribbons) and an honor discharge cloth “ruptured duck” above the other pocket. Domed brass collar insignia (one “U.S.” and one Air Corps insignia) on collar. Nicely custom tailored to fit service member with tailor label on interior: Nudelman Bros. Uniforms Regalia Portland, Seattle. Most likely 1940s era. Worn condition.
Additional Notes: The Eisenhower jacket also known as “Ike” jacket, officially listed as the Jacket, Field, Wool, Olive Drab, is a type of waist length jacket developed for the US. Army during the later stages of WW2 and named after Dwight Eisenhower. Intended to be worn on its own or as an insulating layer beneath the M-1943 Field Jacket and over the standard wool flannel shirt and wool sweater, it featured a pleated back, adjustable waist band, fly front buttons, bellows chest pockets, slash side pockets, and shoulder straps.
The Second Air Force (2 AF; 2d Air Force in 1942) is a USAF numbered air force responsible for conducting basic military and technical training for Air Force enlisted members and non-flying officers. In WW2 the CONUS unit defended the Northwestern United States and Upper Great Plains regions and during the Cold War, was Strategic Air Command unit with strategic bombers and missiles. Elements of Second Air Force engaged in combat operations during the Korean War; Vietnam War, as well as Operation Desert Storm.
