United States Purple Heart Medal in case. Slot broach stitched ribbon pin attachment system. Numbered on edge “212952”. Also, has ribbon bar and enameled lapel device. 1940s (WW2) era. Worn condition.

Additional Notes: The Purple Heart medal is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving with one of the U.S. Armed Services after April of 1917, has been wounded or killed. With its forerunner, the Badge of Military Merit, which took the form of a heart made of purple cloth, the Purple Heart is the oldest military award still given to U.S. military members.

Rex Products Co. produced Purple Hearts under a 1942 contract (June 8, 1942 – July 1, 1942) for the Army, numbering 100,000 to 400,000. The Rex range overlaps with the Robbins Co. range (400,001–600,000) in some sources, but Rex’s numbered hearts are generally considered earlier in the contract period. Since Rex’s contract started June 8, 1942 and ended July 1, 1942, and their numbers run from 100,000 to 400,000. WW2 Purple Heart #212952 was most likely produced in 1943 under the Rex Products Co. contract for July 1, 1942.
