Additional Notes: The Chungmu Order of Military Merit is one of the five classes of South Korea’s Order of Military Merit, a prestigious decoration awarded for exceptional military service during wartime or national emergencies. Originally created in 1950; renamed in 1951. Third class in the hierarchy. South Korean and allied military personnel were both eligible. Awarded for gallantry and meritorious service in combat or during national emergencies. During the Korean War, over 179,000 Orders of Military Merit were awarded, with the majority issued during active combat.
