United States Army 2 Star General Wool Shirt of Major General Seignious. The shirt has custom done generals embroidered two stars on each collar area. Shirt has name tag above one front pocket: Seignious. Also, has US Army and CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) Insignia above other front pocket. US Army 3rd Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia (patch) on one sleeve. Tag on front pocket area with some background information. Contract marks faded on interior, 1951 type contract shirt; however, this was most likely used 1968 to 1970s era. Nice overall condition.

 

Additional Notes: Major General George M. Seignious was a notable commander of the 3rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. The division, nicknamed “Rock of the Marne,” has a distinguished history, having served in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Persian Gulf War, and conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is currently based at Fort Stewart, Georgia, and operates under the XVIII Airborne Corps.

Major General Seignious served as a Military Advisor to the Paris Peace Talks and later became Commanding General of the 3d Infantry Division in Germany. He also assumed command of U.S. Army, Berlin and served as a military advisor to Ambassador Kenneth Rush during the Quadripartite Negotiations on Berlin. Later in his career, he became President of The Citadel and later served as Director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament agency with the rank of Ambassador. He was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army and won the Silver Star while serving as a Platoon Leader with the 10th Armored Division in the European Theater of Operations during WW2.

General Seignious was promoted to major general in June 1968 and became Commanding General of the 3d Infantry Division in Germany.
