United States WW2 8th Army Air Force (AAF) Officer Service Tunic British Made (London) and Named. Uniform has officer collar insignia, a pair of officers “U.S.” insignia and a pair of AAF (Army Air Force) officer insignia. Also, has Lieutenant (Lt.) Rank bullion insignia on shoulder strap area. One sleeve has a very nice bullion 8th AAF shoulder sleeve insignia (patch) and three overseas stripes on lower portion of the sleeve. Each stripe represents 6 months service in a combat zone. The 3 stripes would represent 1 1/2 years of service in a combat zone. Above one front pocket is a very nice bullion bombardier wing. Interior has private purchase tailor label on interior inside pocket: Moss Bros & Co Ltd, Covent Garden, London W.C. and named to: Lt. J.H. Mohr.  Overall, nice condition British (London) made named officer tunic with nice bullion insignia.

 

Additional Notes: The United States (U.S.) Army basic service uniforms consisted of a winter service uniform of olive drab (OD) wool worn in temperate weather, and a summer service uniform of khaki (a shade of tan) cotton fabric worn in tropical weather. In addition to the basic service uniforms, there were also a variety of fatigue and combat uniforms utilized as well. During ww2 era, summer and winter service uniforms were worn during their respective seasons while on duty within the United States. During wartime deployment, the European Theater of Operations was considered a year-round temperate zone and the Pacific Theater of Operations a year-round tropical uniform zone. In the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, U.S. soldiers wore both seasonal uniforms.

 

Additional Notes: The U.S. 8th Army Air Force (8th AAF) was a United States Army Air Forces combat air force in WW2. It engaged in operations primarily in the Northern Europe area of responsibility, carried out strategic bombing of enemy targets in France, the Low Countries, and Germany, and engaged in air-to-air fighter combat against enemy aircraft until the German capitulation in May of 1945. The U.S. 8th Air Force was based in England and was nicknamed the “Mighty 8th”.
