United States M1 Combat Helmet Reversible Camouflage Cover Vietnam. Mitchell camouflage pattern. Contract marked and dated: Cover, Helmet, Camouflage, DSA – 1 – 811 – C – 62 (for 1962). Very worn condition with cut slits for chinstraps to go through and edge wear and tears from helmet rim.
Additional Notes: The U.S. Mitchell camouflage pattern was developed during the Korean War and was used extensively during the Vietnam War. The M1 helmet cover in this pattern is reversible, featuring a green leaf “summer” design on one side and a brown cloud “winter” pattern on the other. This allowed soldiers to adapt their camouflage to different environments. The Mitchell pattern helmet cover was first introduced in 1959 and was used by both Marines and Army troops. It had buttonholes for attaching foliage.
