United States Army Field Cap. Hot Weather OG-106 Cap. 1st Type transitional cap (some features of OG-106 and some of the later OG-507 cap). Only Four vent holes instead of 6 vent holes in this late version (transitional) OG-106 cap and the internal stiffener only goes halfway up the cap interior. Contract tag on interior is marked OG-106 and size marked 7 and contract dated 1974. Worn condition.
Additional Notes: The US Army Field Cap Hot Weather OG-106 are sometimes referred to as OG-106 Ball Caps. The early 1st Issue type was produced in the mid 1960s to early 1970s. The 1st type caps feature a vent hole on all panels (6 vent holes), a cotton sweatband (verses the later vinyl type) and the front stiffener goes all the way to the top of the hat.
There also appears to be a transitional OG-106 cap that was issued in the early to mid 1970s with a mixture of the features of the OG-106 and OG-507 caps. Such as only 4 vent holes and front stiffener only going up halfway of interior of cap, however, without the brown vinyl sweatband.
The US Military OG-507 caps were introduced after the Vietnam War. The OG-507 caps have only four vent holes while the earlier OG-106 caps typically had 6 vent holes. The OG-507 caps most of the time featured a brown vinyl sweatband, and the front stiffener only goes halfway up the interior of the cap. The OG-507 caps appear identical in color to the earlier OG-106 caps.
