ON HOLD Derby0825 Framed Photo US WW2 Fighter Plane “Jolly Rodgers” VF-17 . FLU4957

Framed Photo United States WW2 Fighter Aircraft. Not sure age of photo, most likely fairly modern re-print photo and modern frame. Plane appears to have “Jolly Rodger” insignia on side of plane. I believe this is from VF-17, the first Jolly Rogers, in January of 1943. They flew the F4U Corsair. Note the skull and crossbones on the nose. I think from quick research that is this a picture of F4U-1A Corsair of Lt. Ira Kepford’s 29 VF-17. Frame size approximately 20 1/4 inches x 16 1/4 inches. Worn condition.

They were known for their successful operations and the iconic skull and crossbones insignia that they carried. The squadron’s legacy includes flying over nine different types of fighter aircraft and earning a reputation for their combat prowess. The Jolly Rogers’ legacy continues with other squadrons that have adopted the name and insignia, such as VF-84 and VF-103
