United States Distinguished Service Medal (DSM). This is the slot broach stitched ribbon version. Also, swivels at ribbon bar connector and has the nice early gilt finish. This one is not named or numbered, however, early version from 1940s-1950s (ww2-Korea) era.
Additional Notes: The United States Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) is a prestigious military medal awarded to members of the U.S. Army who have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service to the government in a duty of great responsibility. The performance must be such as to merit recognition for service that is clearly exceptional. The medal features the coat of arms of the United States in gold, surrounded by a circle of dark blue enamel with the inscription “FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MCMXVIII”. The ribbon consists of scarlet, ultramarine blue, and white stripes. The DSM is equivalent to the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, and Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal. It was established in January of 1918, and the first award was given in January of 1918.
