Soviet Army Proficiency Badge. Specialist Class 3. This is a nice earlier issue badge in gilded brass and enamel with screw back fittings (note: later issues from the 1970’s onwards typically were made of a cheaper bright alloy and were pin back). Worn condition with some chipping to the enamel.

Additional Notes: The Soviet Proficiency Badge was awarded to officers in the Soviet Union based on their proficiency, skill, and conduct. These badges replaced various specialist qualification badges. They were established in April of 1961 by the USSR Ministry of Defense. While the Soviet Union had a wide range of badges and decorations, this particular one focused on recognizing excellence and expertise among military personnel.
