US 515th PIB “Boots” Patch . USP851


United States 551st PIB (Parachute Infantry Battalion) “Boots” Patch. Wool Felt patch. Worn condition. Most likely 1940s WW2 Occupation era from “Boots”. This patch is the version of 515th PIR pocket patch often referred to as the “Boots and Chutes” version which was made immediately post WW2 for veterans. The patch does not react to UV light (does not glow under blacklight).


Additional Notes: The Fall of 1946 issue of Boots, a quarterly magazine for veterans of the airborne that was published for a few years immediately after the war. The advertisement announces that Boots has commissioned the manufacture of the patches of a number of airborne units, including some that had distinctive unit insignia but not patches (505th, 550th), and some whose patches were only made overseas (509th, 551st).
