Additional Notes: The 2nd Infantry Division patch, known as the “Indianhead,” symbolizes a proud history and is one of the most recognized unit emblems in the U.S. Army. The 2nd Infantry Division patch features a distinctive design that includes a five-pointed white star and an Indianhead. The origins of the patch date back to 1917 when Colonel William Herringshaw noticed that French military vehicles were marked with symbols representing their units. He initiated a contest among his men to design a symbol for the division, leading to the creation of the Indianhead design combined with a star.
