Additional Notes: The 15th Army Air Force was established in November of 1943, as part of the United States Army Air Forces in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. It played a crucial role in strategic bombing operations against Axis powers. The 15th Air Force was instrumental in mounting major raids in southern and eastern Europe, significantly impacting the Luftwaffe’s defenses. Its first commander was General Jimmy Doolittle, and it operated from bases in southern Italy.
