United States WW2 Army M1941 Combat Field Jacket. Talon marked front zipper. Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt.) sleeve rank insignia on each sleeve and 8th AAF (Army Air Force) shoulder sleeve insignia (patch) on one upper sleeve. Also, has cloth aerial gunner wings on front of jacket. Very heavy wear at neck area with damage on top neck area. Scatter moth nips to interior. Military laundry type small ink numbers on interior area near zipper section. Very worn condition sleeve ends. Worn condition jacket.

 

Additional Notes: The M1941 Field Jacket was used by the US Army during the beginning of WW2. It was introduced in 1940 and became the standard combat uniform for soldiers and Marines until the end of WW2. The jacket was constructed of an olive drab shade of cotton poplin outer shell with a dark olive drab blanket wool flannel lining. The jacket had a front zipper front closure with a buttoned flap. The jacket also had buttons at the collar for closing the lapels, as well as, buttoned adjusting tabs on each side of the waist and at the cuffs and buttoned shoulder epaulets. There were two front slash pockets and a notched lapel collar.

The U.S. 8th Army Air Force (8th AAF) was a United States Army Air Forces combat air force in WW2. It engaged in operations primarily in the Northern Europe area of responsibility, carried out strategic bombing of enemy targets in France, the Low Countries, and Germany, and engaged in air-to-air fighter combat against enemy aircraft until the German capitulation in May of 1945. The U.S. 8th Air Force was based in England and was nicknamed the “Mighty 8th”.
