USMC Officer Mameluke Sword – Named . SU3001cxbw

$400.00

United States Marine Corps (USMC) Officer Mameluke Sword. Nice medium orange grip (a little more unusual than you typically see with the cream color grips). Nice sword tassel/knot tied on sword. Double engraved blade. Named on dedication panel appears to be: J.A. Weizenegger (unresearched). I do not see any marker marks on blade ricasso under cross guard. Blade length approximately 31 1/4 inches. I believe this is an earlier sword with the medium orange grip, most likely 1930s-1950s era. A nice early named USMC Officer sword.

Additional Notes: The United States Marine Corps Officer’s Mameluke Sword is a ceremonial weapon adopted in 1826, inspired by a gift presented to Lt. Presley O’Bannon after the Battle of Derna in 1805. It remains one of the oldest continuously used military swords in American service, symbolizing Marine honor, tradition, and valor. The sword commemorates the Marines’ first battle on foreign soil and their role in establishing America’s reputation as a naval power. Many swords are engraved with the officer’s name and service details, continuing a tradition of personalization.
