Hold(BW)Japanese Wakizashi 1700s – Edo . SJ341b

$1,600.00

Japanese Wakizashi blade in Koshirae. Samuri era blade (circa approximately 1700s). One-hole nakago (tang) that is unsigned (Mumei). Nice looking Fuchi fitting at opening end of tsuka (hilt/handle) and with a nice kashira (end cap) as well. The lacquered saya (wooden scabbard) still has the one loop mount (that is typically broken off or damaged) and has nice buffalo horn accents. There is also an interesting dragonfly design on the end fitting (kojiri) to saya. I believe to be Edo period blade and fittings. Tsuka with wrap still in decent shape, ray skin cover wood core with nice pair of menuki. Nice two-piece copper habaki (blade collar). Iron tsuba with good basic design with gilt highlights and has seppa (spacers) on each side. Blade in nice overall condition with wavy temper line. Blade length is approximately 16 inches (counting the habaki), about 15 1/4 inch cutting edge, and about 22 3/4 inches overall. Overall, a very nice looking wakizashi.

Additional Notes: Wakizashi blades are typically between 12 inches to 24 inches or (30-60cm) or (between 1 and 2 shaku).
