United States WW2 M1 Combat Helmet. Swivel bale with front seam (1943-1944). However, it appears someone re-painted the helmet shell and liner so that it displays a 1st division and lieutenant insignia type design. So, original ww2 era helmet and liner, however, they have been repainted (I believe recently) to have a fancier display look. Helmet shell does not have any chinstrap. Liner in very rough condition with interior that is damaged and missing portions of the interior webbing and other interior liner parts. The liner is marked with the Firestone logo and “52” in interior dome area. Overall, a ww2 swivel bale front seam helmet with a ww2 era liner, however, heavily damaged interior to helmet liner and both helmet shell and liner later repainted with 1st division type design.
Additional Notes: The US M1 combat helmet, introduced in 1941, became an iconic piece of American military gear during WW2. It replaced the earlier M1917 helmet and was designed to provide better protection and visibility for soldiers. The M1 helmet consisted of two parts: a steel outer shell and a detachable inner liner, which allowed for versatility and comfort. Over 22 million units were produced during the war, with manufacturers like McCord Radiator and Schlueter Manufacturing contributing to its production. The helmet’s design remained largely unchanged throughout the conflict, though minor modifications were made to features like chinstrap attachments. Its olive drab color and textured surface became synonymous with the image of the American GI.
