However, both of the decal areas have been painted over with some type of clear lacquer paint. The liner is in very dry, stiff, fragile, and rough condition with damage and several of the ends broken off from being so stiff and fragile. Size and maker marked on inner rim of helmet Q62 (for the marker of Quist). Lot/Production marked on back inner rim of helmet appears to be: 3175. Overall, very heavily worn condition with very dry, stiff, delicate, and damaged liner.
Additional Notes: The German combat helmets produced from 1935 to 1945 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear. The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location (ET, SE, Q, NS, EF, HKP) and the inside metric circumference in centimeters. The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. There we three main combat models produced: the M35, M40, and M42. Each reflects a different phase of the war, from pre-war precision engineering to mass production under siege conditions.
