Additional Notes: The rank insignia for a second lieutenant in the United States Army is a gold bar. In most English-speaking and Arabic-speaking countries, as well as a number of European and South American nations, second lieutenants usually wear one star (pip).

The Shold-R-Form insignia, produced by NS Meyer, was used by the U.S. Army during WW2. These insignia are characterized by their design, which includes a raised shield. The insignia existed before and after WW2 and came in various materials, including sterling and non-sterling varieties. The Shold-R-Form insignia were made to fit the curve of the shoulder on epaulet rank display.
