United States WW2 Springfield Randal Model 1 8-inch Fighter Knife. Rare knife. The knife has the maker mark of “Randall Made Spfld. Mass.” along with the double scimitar sword logo. Brass cross guard has a little bit of wiggle. There is light wear on the leather handle. Blade length approximately 8 inches. Blade has quite a bit of graying, spotting, scratches and wear to the blade. The sheath fits the knife well, however, it does have quite a bit of wear and staining, as well as, the sharpening stone pocket damaged, also, sharpening stone is broken, however, still have the stone and will include with the knife. Overall, a very worn condition rare ww2 knife.

Additional Notes: The Springfield Randall knife originated during WW2 when soldiers often carried privately purchased combat knives due to the lack of standardized issue knives early in the war. Walter “Bo” Randall, founder of Randall Made Knives, had already established a reputation for high-quality handmade knives. In 1942, Lt. J.H. Zacharias of the U.S. Army requested a practical fighting knife, which led to the creation of the Model 1 “All-Purpose Fighter”. To meet wartime demand, a small number of these knives were produced under contract in Springfield, Massachusetts, rather than Randall’s main Orlando, Florida workshop. The Springfield Randall is typically an 8-inch Model 1 knife featuring a clean blade, brass cross guard, and leather handle. The blade is marked “Randall Made Spfld. Mass.” along with the double scimitar sword logo, distinguishing it from the standard Orlando-made knives. Only about 1,200 Springfield-marked Randall knives were produced, making them extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors. The production involved collaboration with local Massachusetts cutlery companies, such as the Northampton Cutlery Company, under wartime material and labor restrictions. These knives were prized for their durability, craftsmanship, and practicality in combat.
