Additional Notes: The Chinese National Army Officer Dagger were issued to officers of the Kuomintang (KMT) during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945). They typically featured nickel-plated steel blades with a sharp tip and dull edges. The gilt brass crossguards and fittings were typically adorned with plum blossom motifs. Multicolored grips were wrapped in wire. Scabbards were made of steel with brass fittings. These daggers are sought after due to their scarcity and historical significance. Many were handmade, resulting in unique variations. They are especially prized by collectors from Taiwan, the Chinese diaspora, and militaria enthusiasts worldwide. These officer’s daggers were both finely and crudely made, with a great deal of variation apparent among surviving examples.
