Imperial German Hunting Association Dagger Hirschfänger. Marker marked on the blade ricasso with the Eickorn Solingen back-to-back squirrel logo (1906-1921). Blade is double etched depicting hunting scenes with wild boar, deer, dogs, birds, and hunters. Stag grip has three acorns cross guard features deer hooves protruding out of dog’s mouth. Clamshell type cross guard has dogs and deer hunting scene. Blade length approximately 16 1/2 inches and overall length about 22 inches. Good condition scabbard. Overall, good condition.
Additional Notes: An Imperial German Hirschfänger (deer catcher) is a type of hunting dagger traditionally used in Germany to kill deer and boar, especially during the fancy hunts of the German nobility. It evolved from medieval hunting swords used by mounted hunters and is typically 18–30 inches in overall length.
