Confederate Boyle & Gamble Foot Officer Sword. No scabbard. Approximately 29 1/2 inch blade. This type of sword was carried by many Southern infantry officers during the War Between the States, it is unmarked, standard production steel edged weapon that resembles the Federal Model 1850 Foot Officer’s Sword. Although this sword is completely void of maker markings, it has the classic features of the well-known Richmond, VA firm of Boyle & Gamble. Those features include flats with unstopped fullers and a distinctive, tiered brass pommel cap and crude castings. The sword is in heavily worn condition and does not have the scabbard.
Additional Notes: The Boyle & Gamble was a prominent sword manufacturer during the Confederate era, known for producing high-quality officer’s swords that are highly sought after by collectors today.
