WW2 British Commando Dagger 3rd Pattern . BMX169

$400.00

WW2 British Commando Dagger 3rd Pattern. Double-edged late war machine-ground blade in good condition with some edge sharpening. The ringed grip is cast base material with a light copper coating and then blacken and is mold numbered “1” near pommel area. The grip has wear to the blackening allowing the copper coating to show through with some raised areas where you can see the bare cast metal, overall, giving a nice look to the grip. The cross guard is marked “England”. Leather sheath in decent condition, however, the elastic strap on top is missing the stitching on one side, so, it moves a bit freely along the top area with only some stitching remain on one side. Sheath also England marked. Worn condition.

Additional Notes: The WW2 British Commando Dagger 3rd Pattern, also known as the Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife, was a crucial weapon for British commandos during WW2. Designed for close combat, it featured a double-edged blade, a ring grip handle, and a sharp, tapered point, making it highly effective for thrusting attacks. The Third Pattern, introduced in October of 1943, was the most widely produced version. Unlike earlier models, it had a cast grip with mold numbers to identify manufacturers, simplifying production during wartime shortages. The blade was either hand-ground (mid-war) or machine-ground (late-war), depending on the production period. This dagger became an iconic symbol of elite forces, including the British Commandos, SAS, and Airborne Forces, and even influenced the design of knives used by the U.S. Marine Raiders.
