British Waterloo Medal 1815. Name on side to: “** Jn. Smith. 1 Batt. 40. Reg. Foot. . **”, appears to have been renamed, a lot of edge wear. A fixed ring suspension has replaced the original suspension. Ribbon is crimson with dark blue edges. A lot of surface wear and edge wear.

 

Additional Notes: The Waterloo Medal is a military decoration that was conferred upon every officer, non-commissioned officer, and soldier of the British Army who took part in one or more of the following battles: Ligny (16 June 1815), Quatre Bras (16 June 1815) and Waterloo (18 June 1815). The medal is made of silver and is 37mm in diameter. Thomas Wyon, Chief Engraver to the Royal Mint was selected to design the medal. The design of the Waterloo medal, including size, metal, and naming, set the pattern for most future British campaign medals.
