United States Marine Corps (USMC) Corpsman Bolo with the US 42 Boyt Scabbard. This is the only year Boyt stamped their scabbards US Boyt with 42 underneath. Starting in 1943 the stamp changed to USMC BOYT 43 OR 44 OR 45. This is the first issue of these scabbards and is also the rarest. The blade is marked: USMC Chatillon, N.Y. This one has the 4-rivet handle. Overall decent condition.
Additional Notes: The USMC Corpsman Bolo Knife was a versatile tool used by hospital corpsmen during WW2. It was designed for utility purposes, such as cutting wood for splints and litters, and was not intended as a fighting knife. The knife’s rounded end was sharpened for digging and chopping, making it a heavy-duty survival tool. The knife was issued with a leather sheath reinforced with a brass ring, and it was marked with “USMC” on the blade. The knife’s design and materials reflect its intended use as a practical tool for medical personnel in the field.
