United States Western Shark 46-6 Knife. Flat steel pommel that appears to be reshaped and ground down a bit. Leather grip with black and red spacers and long steel guard that also appears to be ground down and reshaped. A lot of heavy wear to top pommel area, however, knife is still nice and tight. Marked on blade ricasso: Western, Boulder, Colo. Pat.No.1,967,479. No sheath. Very heavily worn condition.
Additional Notes: The WW2 Western G46-6 “Shark” Fighting Knife is a highly collectible and historically significant combat knife produced by Western Cutlery in Boulder, Colorado during WW2. The knife was issued to both the USMC and USN. The Western G46-6 was made with steel, aluminum, and bakelite pommels, can have bright or blued blades and have guards either made of steel or brass. The Western G46-6 was also one of the first knives that were issued to Marine Raiders. There are about 18 variations of the Western G46-6 Shark Fighting Knife.
