United States Navy Survival Pilot Folding Knife. Marker marked on blade: United GR Mich (for United Machine Tool Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan), worn away a bit and really hard to make out the United mark due to heavy wear and a lot of over cleaning. The large clip point locking blade is in heavy worn condition and the saw blade is stuck down and I cannot get to lift up. 1940s (ww2) era. Worn and damaged condition and possible project piece if you want to try to fix the saw blade or leave as is and displays well and still has a decent large locking blade.
Additional Notes: The The WW2 U.S. Navy Survival Pilot Folding Knife was an essential tool issued to Navy pilots for emergency situations. These knives were designed for durability and versatility, often featuring a folding blade and saw to assist in survival scenarios. Nicknamed the “Big Jack” or “Giant Jack”, these huge folding survival knives were introduced during WW2 by the Colonial Knife Co. of Providence, R.I., for use by U.S. Navy pilots. These heavy-duty knives were placed in aircraft survival kits. The knives were chemically blackened with one large clip point locking blade and a saw blade suitable for cutting metal.
