Additional Notes: The “Ka-Bar” knife, adopted by the United States Marines Corps in 1942, is a legendary combat knife that became a symbol of American military history. It was designed to be a multi-purpose tool suitable for both combat and utility tasks, such as digging trenches, opening crates, and preparing meals. The knife’s design was inspired by traditional hunting knives, offering a blade that could hack through jungle foliage and still hold an edge for combat. The “KA-BAR” knife’s durability and quality were a result of rigorous production and testing, ensuring it passed all types of tests without failure. It became a cherished possession of every Marine, relied on for various combat and utility tasks, and is remembered for its role in the Pacific and European theaters of WW2.
Camillus Cutlery Co., the first and largest manufacturer to supply the knife, produced over one million with “Camillus N.Y.” on the knife’s ricasso with the branch of service (USN or USMC) which on later knives were moved to the cross guard. Besides Camillus, the Union Cutlery Co. (Kabar), Robeson (ShurEdge) Cutlery Co., and PAL Cutlery Co. produced the MK2 knife under military contract during WW2.
The US Camillus NY markings on the blade and the straight crossguard indicate that this variation was manufactured somewhere between 1962 and 1974.
