Additional Notes: The Infantry Assault Badge (Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen) was instituted in December of 1939, by Generalfeldmarschall Walther von Brauchitsch. It was awarded to soldiers of the Waffen-SS and Wehrmacht Heer (Army) who participated in infantry assaults on the front lines. The badge was designed to recognize the bravery and combat experience of infantry soldiers who engaged in direct combat operations.

The Silver grade badge was awarded to infantry soldiers who participated in at least three infantry assaults, including counter-attacks, or engaged in hand-to-hand combat in an assault position, or participated on three separate days in the reestablishment of combat positions.
The Bronze grade badge was awarded to motorized and mechanized infantry units, using similar criteria as the silver badge.
