WW2 German War Merit Cross (KVK) 1st Class with swords in case. Pin back. Zinc based badge with a nice finish still remaining. Marker marked “65” on back of the pin for the marker of Klein & Quenzer (K&Q). The case is also matching marked Klein & Quenzer A.G. and is the more desirable version of the case with the detailed design of the War Merit Cross on the top lip. Overall, nice condition.
Additional Notes: The WW2 German War Merit Cross 1st Class (Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse) was a significant award during WW2, instituted by Germany in 1939. It was awarded in two variants: with swords and without swords. The swords version was awarded to military personnel for exceptional service that was not directly related to combat. The without swords version was given to civilians and military personnel for meritorious service in furtherance of the war effort. The 1st Class War Merit Cross was a pin-backed medal, typically worn on the pocket of the tunic, similar to the Iron Cross 1st Class.
