Additional Notes: The Yangtze Service Medal was established by the Navy Department General Orders in April of 1930. It was awarded to U.S. Navy and Marine Corps personnel who served in the Yangtze River Valley, Shanghai, China, or surrounding waters between September of 1926, and December of 1932. The medal was designed by John R. Sinnock and features a Chinese junk at half sail on the obverse, symbolizing the area of operations, and a left-facing eagle perched on an anchor on the reverse. The ribbon is dark blue with two sets of red and gold stripes. The medal was discontinued in 1940 with the advent of the China Service Medal.
