United States Rubberized M16/M16A1 Ammo Pouch. Vietnam era. This type of pouch was issued to the members of the 1041st Security Police Squadron, which deployed to Vietnam’s Phu Cat Air Base in 1967. The pouch is made of rubberized duck cotton and consists of two pocket that each hold a single 20rd magazine, has two Lift the Dot fasteners and belt loop to back. Worn condition.

 

Additional Notes: The rubberized two pocket M16 ammunition pouch was made from rubberized cotton duck. It consisted of two separate pockets, each of which could accommodate a single 20-round magazine and was closed with a lift-the-dot fastener. Three M16 ammunition pockets were issued to each member of the 1041st Security Police Squadron, which deployed to Vietnam’s Phu Cat Air Base for six-months in January 1967 as part of Operation Safe Side. Safe Side was a one-year test program (September 1966 to August 1967) conducted to determine the organization, equipment and training of Air Force Combat Security Squadrons operating in insurgent environments. It was also rumored to have been borrowed or traded to SOG Recon teams in Vietnam.
