SOLD US Purple Heart Medal with Oakleaf – Named . YMU4790

United States Purple Heart Medal with second award oak leaf cluster device on ribbon. Crimped broach type pin system is marked LI-GI (LI is Lordship Industries. GI is the designation for Government Issue, it is believed the LI-GI mark was used from about 1978 to about 1986). Named on back to John N. McComas. Could use additional research on name, I have not researched at all. Most likely late 1970s-1980s era. Worn condition.

Additional Notes: The Purple Heart medal is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving with one of the U.S. Armed Services after April of 1917, has been wounded or killed. With its forerunner, the Badge of Military Merit, which took the form of a heart made of purple cloth, the Purple Heart is the oldest military award still given to U.S. military members.
