U.S. Brooklyn New York Civil War Medal. Brooklyn Civil War Medal with interesting research. A good condition medal with original ribbon. The top bar is period named to D. FRIEL. Daniel Friel Enlisted on 7/15/1861 at New York City, NY as a Private in “B” Co. 47th New York Infantry. Daniel Friel’s wartime letters are published. Information from the NYU Library website: “Daniel and Hugh Friel immigrated to Brooklyn from Ireland and lived on the corner of Classon and Lafayette Streets. Daniel, the eldest brother, had served in the U.S. Navy on the Frigate Wabash before serving in the Civil War as Second Lieutenant in the 47th New York Volunteers. After the War, he returned to Brooklyn and became a fireman.” Overall, an interesting Civil War Medal for Brooklyn New York soldier.
