ON HOLD BW1121 – US GAR Officer Membership Medal . YMU4558

U.S. GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) Membership Medal. I do not see any numbering on edge. This particular GAR medal has a full Colonel rank shoulder strap enameled top pin which typically indicates the GAR member was a post commander. The flag ribbon has yellow borders. The GAR medal given to all Union Civil War veterans when they joined the GAR. Overall good condition for age.

Additional Notes: The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army (U.S. Army), Union Navy (U.S. Navy), Marines and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service who served in the American Civil War. It was founded in 1866 in Springfield, Illinois, and grew to include hundreds of Posts (local community units) across the nation (mostly  in the North, however, also a few in the South and West of the U.S.).
