Additional Notes: The Soviet Order of the October Revolution was a prestigious Soviet award established in October of 1967, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. It was the second-highest Soviet order, following the Order of Lenin. The award was given to individuals, groups, military units, and institutions for their contributions to communism, the state, or the defense of the Soviet Union. The insignia of the Order featured a red star with golden rays, a pentagon with the image of the cruiser Aurora, a red flag with the words “October Revolution” in Russian, and a Hammer and Sickle emblem. The Order was worn on the left chest with a red ribbon bearing five blue stripes. The first recipients of the Order were the cities of Leningrad and Moscow. Over 100,000 individuals and entities were awarded the Order before it was discontinued in 1991.
