Additional Notes: The WW2 German Luftwaffe green HBT (Herringbone Twill) tunic is a fascinating piece of wartime uniform history. While most HBT tunics are associated with the Heer (Army), the Luftwaffe also adopted similar garments, especially in the later years of the war when material shortages and the need for lightweight summer uniforms became pressing. These tunics were typically made from reed green-dyed cotton HBT fabric, a durable and breathable material ideal for warm-weather operations. The cut closely resembled the standard wool Feldbluse, but with simplified construction: fewer belt hook holes, minimal lining, and removable buttons attached with “S” rings rather than being sewn on. This made laundering and field repairs much easier. While the Heer versions are more commonly seen, Luftwaffe personnel, especially ground troops and field divisions, were issued reed green HBT tunics as well.
