Japanese Wakizashi Edo Period Signed . SJ290

Japanese Wakizashi Edo Period. Good tsuka (hilt/handle) with good tsuka-ito (handle wrapping) and menuki (the decorative ornaments under the handle wrapping). Fuchi fitting appears to have small village scene with gold highlights and a basic kashira (end cap) with some gold highlights. Damaged black lacquered saya (wooden scabbard) with some cracking by the slot where the small accessory would slide into saya. Blade in good condition with straight temper line. Iron tsuba with with basic gold highlight on one side (very basic tsuba). Two spacers (seppa) and a silver one piece habaki (blade collar). Single hole nakago (tang) that is signed with what I am told is for Sukemune. Size of blade approx 18 3/4 inches from tsuba (17 3/4 inches measured from end of habaki).

Wakizashi blades are typically between 12 inches to 24 inches or (30-60cm) or (between 1 and 2 shaku).
