Japanese Wakizashi Iron Cut-Out Tsuba . NNJ104


Japanese iron Wakizashi tsuba with brass edging. Round shape (maru gata). Tsuba with single center hole (hole for storing or histsu-ana) the main center hole (nakago-ana) for the blade. Simple cut out design. Tsuba size approx 2 3/16 inches X 2 7/8 inches. The main center hole for blade approx 5/16 inches wide X 1 inch long. Believe this is Edo period (1603-1867)

The diameter of an average katana tsuba is 3.0 to 3.1 inches (7.5 to 8 cm).
The diameter of a typical wakizashi tsuba is 2.4 to 2.6 inches (6.2-6.6 cm).
The diameter of a typical tanto tsuba is 1.8 to 2.4 inches (4.5-6 cm).
