United States Air Force (USAF) enlisted visor cap. Blue type I wool cap. Bancroft Cap Company. Size marked 7 on tag under sweatband and contract marked as DSA-100-3643 (which DSA would date it somewhere in the 1962-1977 range, and the specific number would date it to approximately 1966). Worn condition.
Additional Notes: US Military clothing and gear is made with a tag or stamp that contains the contract number. By following the contract numbering system you can find basic date ranges. For example, the DA (Defense Agency) contract was from 1953 to 1961, the DSA (Defense Supply Agency) contracts was from 1962 to 1977, the DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) was from 1978 to 1993, and from 1994 to Present was the SPO and SPM.
The DSA stamped items use a more complex dating system for items from early Vietnam to the end of the Vietnam War. The 1962 thru 1964 used a prefix of DSA-1, Suffix of E6Y (Y=Year). In 1965 used the prefix of DSA-1, No Dating Suffix. In 1966 used a prefix of DSA-100, No Dating Suffix. Then in 1967 thru 1977 used a prefix of DSA-100, Dating Suffix of YYM (YY=Year, M=Month).
