Additional Notes: The WW1 German Gold Wound Badge, known as the “Verwundetenabzeichen,” was a military badge awarded to soldiers of the Imperial German Army who were wounded during WW1. The badge had three classes: Black (3rd class) for those wounded once or twice, Silver (2nd class) for being wounded three or four times, and Gold (1st class) for being wounded five or more times. The Gold Wound Badge could also be awarded posthumously. The badge was made of gilded brass or zinc and was worn on the lower left breast of the uniform. It was a tangible acknowledgment of the physical sacrifices made by soldiers and aimed to honor those who had been injured while performing their duties on the battlefield.
