U.S. Civil War Springfield 1861 Musket with Bayonet. Marked on lock plate 1861 and U.S. Springfield. Also, U.S. marked on the socket bayonet. Worn and used condition and displays very well. The Springfield Model 1861 was a rifled musket shoulder-arm used by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps during the American Civil War. Commonly referred to as the “Springfield” after its original place of production of Springfield, Massachusetts. The Springfield musket was the most widely used U.S. Army weapon during the Civil War, favored for its range, accuracy, and reliability of the weapon.
