US Rev War Charleville M1766 Musket . CWG141b
United States Revolutionary War 1766 Charleville Musket. Very worn condition musket that has been repaired a bit. It appears the stock on this one was damaged and has been restored/repaired (very nice job done). The Charleville musket was a .69 caliber standard French infantry musket used in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was made in 1717 and was last produced during the 1840s. The Model 1763’s sturdier design proved to be a bit too heavy, so in 1766 the musket’s design was lightened (Model 1766). The barrel wall was thinned, the lock was shortened, the stock was slimmed. Though usually considered to be a separate model, the Model 1766 was often referred to as a “light Model 1763” musket, especially in Revolutionary War invoices. Despite the musket being thinned down a bit, the Model 1766 proved to be a rugged and reliable weapon. Very heavily worn and repaired/restored condition.
